Abstract

In a recent study, Ankit Kumar et al. published the findings of their experimental study conducted on rats to assess the antidiabetic effect of the plant Cissampelos pareira L. (Menispermaceae) (see, Ankit Kumar, Ravindra Semwal, Ashutosh Chauhan, Ruchi Badoni Semwal, Subhash Chandra, Debabrata Sircar, Partha Roy and Deepak Kumar Semwal, Evaluation of antidiabetic effect of Cissampelos pareira L. (Menispermaceae) root extract in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats via targeting SGLT2 inhibition, Phytomedicine Plus 2 (2022) 100374, 11pp., https://doi.org/10.1016/j.phyplu.2022.100374). As a part of their study these authors regularly measured the various parameters of the experimental rats at weekly intervals for four weeks which included the blood glucose levels, SGPT, SGOT, total bilirubin, cholesterol, triglycerides, creatinine, uric acid, urea and the LDH activity, and presented their findings about all these measurements in the above paper. In a series of our forthcoming papers, we propose to look at all these results as are reported by these authors in the above study and we try to understand the patterns of these measurements. In this very first paper of this series, we try to explore the pattern of the average blood glucose levels of the experimental rats belonging to the group G1NC (group one normal control) as recorded in this study. We formulate a Dose Response Hill Model to account for the average blood glucose levels of the rats belonging to the group G1NC over the four weeks period of study of these authors.
