Abstract

Environmental chemistry is a multidisciplinary field that examines the chemical processes occurring in the natural environment and their effects on ecosystems, human health, and the planet as a whole. This field seeks to understand how both natural and anthropogenic chemicals interact with the environment, focusing on the fate, transport, and transformation of pollutants. With rapid industrialization, urbanization, and population growth, the impact of human activities on the environment has become more evident, highlighting the need for effective monitoring and mitigation strategies. Environmental chemistry provides crucial insights into the behavior of chemicals in air, water, soil, and biota, offering solutions to global environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. By studying the chemical mechanisms behind environmental problems, environmental chemists are developing innovative and sustainable approaches to improve pollution control, waste management, and resource conservation. This article explores the core principles of environmental chemistry, current environmental challenges, and the role of chemical research in finding solutions to ensure a healthier, more sustainable planet for future generations.
