Abstract

The fashion industry is undergoing a profound transformation as stakeholders increasingly recognize the urgent need for sustainability and the adoption of circular economy principles. Traditional linear production and consumption models, characterized by “take–make–dispose” practices, have contributed to environmental degradation, excessive resource depletion, water and energy overuse, and social challenges such as labor exploitation and supply chain opacity. This review synthesizes current literature on sustainable fashion management and circular economy strategies, with a focus on three interrelated dimensions: supply chain integration, technological innovation, and consumer behavior.
The study explores sustainable sourcing practices, the use of eco-friendly and recyclable materials, circular design principles, waste reduction techniques, and reverse logistics systems that facilitate product reuse, resale, and recycling. It also examines the transformative potential of emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain, smart textiles, and 3D printing—in optimizing resource efficiency, improving supply chain transparency, and supporting sustainable production. Additionally, the review considers consumer awareness, cultural and social influences, and behavioral patterns that drive or hinder sustainable consumption. Ethical, environmental, and policy implications are discussed, highlighting the importance of fair labor practices, corporate social responsibility, regulatory frameworks, and international collaboration in promoting circular fashion.
